Opened in 1911 and bestowed with the title "Queen of the Gulf," the Hotel Galvez has been painstakingly restored to her original majesty and promises to reign supreme in Galveston, Texas for years to come. This eight-story Spanish Colonial-style hotel is located on a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico, one-half mile from downtown Galveston and sits within one mile of the Galveston Convention and Visitor's Bureau, the Moody Civic Center and Gallery Row. Houston Hobby Airport is 44 miles from the hotel.
Hotel Features. The elegant lobby of the Hotel Galvez features mahogany wood beams across the ceiling. Although a timeless showpiece, the hotel offers a modern fitness center with cardiovascular and strength training equipment. The lushly landscaped outdoor pool features a swim-up bar and multiple spa tubs. Guestrooms. The 226 guestrooms of the Hotel Galvez feature tones of lush greens, rich gold and sepia furnishings reminiscent of the 1930s. Pillow-top mattresses, luxuriant bathrobes and designer toiletries indulge guests. Cherry wood armoires feature a pullout television with premium cable channel and video game console.
Expert Tip. Located less than one mile from the Hotel Galvez, Bishop's Palace is on everyone's "must see" list. Built in 1888, this Victorian castle features intricately carved ornaments, stained-glass windows, bronze dragons and other sculptures and fireplaces from around the world, including one that is lined in pure silver.
